Xiaomi 17 Ultra launches with Leica camera and 200 MP periscope power

The Xiaomi 17 Ultra has officially landed in China, and it’s not holding anything back. Headlined by a Leica-tuned camera system and the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 Elite chip, this flagship phone is clearly gunning for the top spot especially when it comes to photography.

Let’s not bury the lede. The big attraction here is the Leica-branded camera setup, which brings some serious firepower. A 1-inch primary sensor dubbed the Light Hunter 1050L anchors the system. It uses LOFIC tech to crank up the dynamic range, and its f/1.67 aperture is tuned for low-light versatility.

But the real headline-grabber? A 200 MP periscope telephoto lens from Samsung. It’s not just about the megapixels. This sensor covers 75 mm to 100 mm focal lengths with almost no visible loss in detail, and it even handles telephoto macro shots. Combined with Leica’s APO certification, it’s designed for sharpness across the board.

Rounding out the triple-camera rear setup is a 14 mm ultra-wide shooter, giving the 17 Ultra serious range from sweeping landscapes to crisp portrait zooms.

Under the hood, Xiaomi packed the 17 Ultra with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 Elite, Qualcomm’s fastest chip right now. It promises stronger performance than other 17-series phones, even the Pro Max. Benchmarks aside, that makes this phone a serious tool for high-end gaming, video editing, and anything else you can throw at it.

Up front, you’ll find a massive 6.9-inch LTPO AMOLED screen with a peak brightness of 3,500 nits. That’s not a typo. It’s brighter than most laptops, and easily viewable in full sunlight. Narrow bezels give it a clean look, while the fast-refresh panel ensures smooth visuals for everything from scrolling to HDR video.

A big screen and heavy camera setup need big battery backup. Xiaomi delivers with a 6,800 mAh cell one of the largest in a flagship device. And with 90 W wired charging and 50 W wireless, it won’t leave you stranded for long.

Here’s a quick look at the hardware highlights:

This isn’t just another spec-heavy Android phone. Xiaomi built the 17 Ultra for serious image makers and spec chasers alike. With Leica optics, a staggering 200 MP periscope lens, and elite-level internals, it’s a device that wears its flagship title with intent.

The spice flows soon, and it zooms, too.
